Constraint feedback in solving incomplete models: a case study in sheet metal bending

چکیده
We deal with the problem of generating process plans in a real-life engineering domain, the bending of sheet metal parts. In this domain where geometry plays a key role, traditional engineering knowledge consists of fragmentary, sometimes contradictory pieces of advice and the solutions are evaluated according to multiple criteria. We apply a planning method that extends constraint programming. The solution process is based on the communication of a general-purpose constraint solver and a domain-specific geometric expert. The geometric module works on an exact spatial representation of the workpiece, machine and tools and generates and successively refines constraints that the solutions must satisfy. The other module solves the dynamically evolving constraint models by combining techniques of constraint propagation, branch-and-bound search and multi-criteria optimization.

EXPERIMENTAL AND NUMERICAL INVESTIGATION ON LASER BENDING PROCESS
Laser bending is an advanced process in sheet metal forming in which a laser heat source is used to shape the metal sheet. In this paper, temperature distribution in a mild steel sheet metal is investigated numerically and experimentally. Laser heat source is applied through curved paths in square sheet metal parts. Finite element (FE) simulation is performed with the ABAQUS/CAE standard softwa...
متن کاملCharacterization of Microstructure and Bending Response of Sheet Material: Influence of Thickness
Bending process is one of the most significant fields of application of sheet metal die. In bending process, it is quite vital that the product should have the desired angle. Furthermore, in order to obtain the desired angle in the bent parts, spring-go and spring-back amounts must be known. In this study, 30o, 60o and 90o bending processes were applied to S235JR (1.0038) sheet metal having 3, ...
متن کاملConstraint-based process planning in sheet metal bending
The majority of research dealing with computer-aided process planning of sheet metal bending approaches this problem as heuristic search. Since relevant engineering knowledge mostly consists of declarations that prohibit collisions and just a handful of generative rules, there are no useful means to drive these heuristics. In order to find a new way, we have made experiments with a constraint-b...
متن کاملDesign and Manufacturing of Sheet Metal Parts: Using Features to Aid Process Planning and Resolve Manufacturability Problems
This paper describes an integrated system for the design and production of sheet metal parts. We have identified some important features for the sheet metal bending process. These features are automatically generated as the design progresses. After the designs are complete, our automatic process planning system uses the features and generates new ones to aid the production of plans with near-mi...
متن کاملU-Bending Analysis with an Emphasis on Influence of Hardening Models
In this paper the effect of different hardening models in simulating the U-bending process for AA5754-O and DP-Steel, taking a benchmark of NUMISHEET 93 2-D draw bending, has been discussed. The hardening models considered in simulations are: isotropic hardening, pure (linear) kinematic hardening and combined (nonlinear kinematic) hardening. The influence of hardening models on predicting sprin...
